A complete guide for customers and ESET × MTN Referral Participants

The ESET × MTN programme gives customers access to ESET cybersecurity protection while creating an opportunity for approved referral participants to introduce ESET products to individuals, families and businesses within their networks.

For customers, the process is straightforward:

Choose your ESET solution → Subscribe → Receive your licence → Install and activate → Start your protection.

For referral participants, the process goes one step further:

Refer a customer → Customer subscribes → Collect proof of subscription → Submit referral evidence → Referral is verified → Earn your commission.

CUSTOMER SALES GUIDE

WHICH ESET PRODUCT SHOULD THE CUSTOMER BUY?

The first step is understanding what the customer needs.

ESET Internet Security

Designed for individuals and families who want protection for their everyday digital activities and devices. It is suitable for customers who use their devices for:

  1. Online banking and payments

  2. Shopping

  3. Email

  4. Social media

  5. Browsing

  6. Streaming

  7. Downloading files

  8. Connecting to Wi-Fi networks

  9. Everyday personal activities

ESET Internet Security supports protection across 2 to 5 devices, depending on the plan purchased.

It helps protect against malware and ransomware, phishing and fraudulent websites, and other digital threats. It also includes features designed to help protect online banking and payments, connected networks and webcams.

ESET PROTECT Entry

Designed for businesses that need a more structured approach to protecting and managing their devices. It is intended for growing businesses that need to protect multiple endpoints and manage their cybersecurity more centrally.

For business customers, the appropriate ESET solution should be selected according to the organisation's number of devices and security requirements.

HOW TO BUY ESET THROUGH MTN

There are two primary purchase routes for the campaign.

BUY FROM AN MTN LINE

Dial 460*150#

Follow the prompts to select the available ESET subscription and complete the purchase.

The customer should carefully review the selected product and subscription before confirming payment.

BUY ONLINE/ ESHOP

Customers can purchase online through the MTN eShop: shop.mtn.ng

1. Visit the MTN eShop

2. Locate the ESET Internet Security offer

3. Select the preferred subscription

4. Continue to checkout

5. Complete payment

6. Keep the purchase confirmation and licence information received after purchase

Customer should not delete the confirmation message or email. It may be needed during activation or if support is required.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER PAYMENT?

This is an important part of the customer journey.Paying for ESET does not mean the customer should simply stop there. After a successful subscription, the customer needs to obtain the licence information associated with the purchase and use it to activate the ESET solution.

PAYMENT COMPLETED

LICENCE INFORMATION RECEIVED

DOWNLOAD/INSTALL THE EXACT SOLUTION VIA MTN.ESETNG.COM

ACTIVATE WITH LICENCE

CONFIRM PROTECTION

START USING ESET

The customer should retain the licence information securely.

For the referral programme, the customer should also be able to provide the relevant licence page or licence information to the person who referred them, where required for referral verification.

WHAT IS A LICENCE?

A licence is what authorises the customer to use the ESET product they have subscribed to.

It connects the customer's subscription to the ESET protection they have purchased. The licence information is therefore important.

Customers should:

• Keep their licence information secure• Avoid publicly sharing licence details• Keep their purchase confirmation• Use the licence information during activation when prompted• Contact the appropriate ESET/MTN support channel if they experience activation problems

For the referral programme, however, the customer may need to provide the licence page screenshot to the person who referred them as proof that the subscription was successfully completed.

HOW ACTIVATION WORKS

Once the customer has successfully subscribed, the next stage is activation.

The customer installs the relevant ESET application on the device they want to protect.

During setup, the customer will be asked to activate the product using the licence information associated with their subscription.

SUBSCRIBE

GET LICENCE

INSTALL ESET

ENTER/USE LICENCE INFORMATION

ACTIVATE

PROTECTION STARTS

The exact screens presented to the customer may differ depending on the product, operating system and current ESET activation flow.

The key point is that purchasing the subscription and activating the protection are separate stages of the customer journey.

A customer who has paid but has not completed activation should not assume that they have finished the process.

WHAT SHOULD THE CUSTOMER SEE AFTER ACTIVATION?

After successful activation, the ESET application should recognise the customer's subscription and display the relevant protection status. The customer should check that:

  1. The correct ESET product is installed

  2. The subscription/licence is recognised

  3. Protection is active

  4. The subscription has not expired

  5. The expected number of devices is covered where applicable

The customer should also keep the application updated so that the protection remains current.

HOW MANY DEVICES CAN BE PROTECTED?

This depends on the subscription purchased. For ESET Internet Security, the campaign offers plans starting from 2 up to 5 devices. While ESET Protect entry starts from 10 up to 25 devices.

WHAT DOES A CUSTOMER GET FROM ESET INTERNET SECURITY?

The customer is not simply buying an application. They are buying protection designed around the risks they encounter while using their devices. EIS helps protect customers against threats such as:

MALWARE

Malicious software that can compromise devices and data.

RANSOMWARE

Threats designed to prevent access to files or systems and demand payment.

PHISHING

Fake messages and websites designed to trick users into revealing information.

FRAUDULENT WEBSITES

Websites designed to imitate legitimate services and deceive users.

ONLINE BANKING THREATS

Protection designed to help safeguard sensitive financial activity.

NETWORK THREATS

Protection for devices connected to potentially unsafe networks.

WEBCAM RISKS

Protection designed to help prevent unauthorised webcam access.

The exact features available depend on the product and supported operating system.

WHAT SHOULD A CUSTOMER DO IF ACTIVATION DOES NOT WORK?

The customer should not repeatedly purchase another subscription.

First, check:

  1. Was the payment successfully completed?

  2. Was the correct ESET product selected?

  3. Was the licence information received?

  4. Was the correct licence information entered?

  5. Is the application compatible with the customer's device?

  6. Is the customer connected to the internet?

  7. Is the device already running another security product that could interfere with installation?

If the problem continues, the customer should contact the appropriate ESET or MTN support channel with their purchase information available.

REFERRAL PARTICIPANT GUIDE

WHAT DOES A REFERRAL PARTICIPANT ACTUALLY DO?

The role is simple:INTRODUCE → EXPLAIN → REFER → FOLLOW UP → VERIFY → SUBMIT

You are introducing customers to ESET, helping them understand the value of the solution, directing them to the correct purchase channel and ensuring that successful referrals can be verified.

A good referral participant should therefore be able to explain:

  1. What ESET is

  2. Who the product is for

  3. Why the customer may need it

  4. Which purchase route to use

  5. What happens after payment

  6. How activation works

  7. What evidence is required after a successful subscription

WHO CAN YOU REFER?

Individuals

People who want protection for their personal devices.

Families

Households with multiple devices.

Students

People who rely heavily on laptops and smartphones for learning, communication and online activities.

Professionals

People who regularly work, communicate and conduct transactions online.

Entrepreneurs

Business owners who rely on technology for everyday operations.

Small Businesses

Businesses that need stronger protection for their digital environment.

The important thing is not simply to sell to everyone. The objective is to connect the right customer with the right ESET solution.

HOW TO MAKE A REFERRAL

The recommended referral process is:

STEP 1 — IDENTIFY A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER

Think about people in your network who actively use computers, smartphones and online services.

STEP 2 — START THE CONVERSATION

Explain the problem ESET helps solve. Do not begin with technical jargon.

Instead of: “ESET uses advanced multilayered threat detection technology…”

You can start with: “You use your phone and laptop for banking, work, shopping and everything else. What are you currently using to protect them?”

STEP 3 — INTRODUCE ESET

Explain the relevant ESET solution and why it may be appropriate for the person.

STEP 4 — DIRECT THEM TO PURCHASE

Give them the approved MTN purchase route:

Dial 460150# or Visit shop.mtn.ng

STEP 5 — FOLLOW UP

Do not assume that sending the link or USSD code means the sale happened.Follow up.

Ask whether they completed the purchase and whether they successfully activated their subscription.

STEP 6 — COLLECT REFERRAL EVIDENCE

This is extremely important. A referral is not treated as successfully completed simply because the participant says that they referred someone. The participant must provide the required evidence.

WHAT COUNTS AS PROOF OF REFERRAL?

For this Promotion, the referral participant must obtain TWO pieces of information from the customer:

1. SCREENSHOT OF THE LICENCE PAGE

The customer should provide a screenshot showing their ESET licence/subscription information.

The screenshot should clearly show enough information to establish that the ESET subscription exists.

2. PHONE NUMBER USED BY THE CUSTOMER

The participant must also provide the phone number of the person who subscribed.

This allows the referral to be connected to the relevant customer subscription during verification.

Therefore:REFERRAL EVIDENCE = LICENCE PAGE SCREENSHOT + CUSTOMER PHONE NUMBER. Both are required.

HOW SHOULD REFERRAL PARTICIPANTS SUBMIT EVIDENCE?

The participant should keep referral records organised. For every successful referral, record:

Customer Name

Customer Phone Number

Customer Email, where available

ESET Product Purchased

Licence Page Screenshot

Date of Purchase

Referrer's Name

Referrer's Registered Phone Number/Email

WHAT DOES NOT COUNT AS SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE?

The following should not be treated as complete referral evidence on their own:

  1. “I referred someone.”

A WhatsApp conversation saying:

“I bought ESET.”
  1. A screenshot of the MTN payment alone. A screenshot of the MTN checkout page alone.

  2. The customer's name without their phone number.

  3. The customer's phone number without evidence of the ESET licence.

  4. A screenshot that does not show enough information to establish the subscription.

  5. A referral participant should therefore make sure they collect the required evidence after the customer successfully subscribes.

IMPORTANT: PAYMENT IS NOT THE SAME AS ACTIVATION

This distinction needs to be made very clear to referral participants. A customer may:

Start purchase

Make payment

Receive licence information

These are different stages. The participant should ideally follow up until the customer has successfully completed the relevant activation process. This reduces situations where a participant reports a referral that cannot be verified because the customer only started the purchase process.

THE REFERRAL PARTICIPANT'S GOLDEN RULE

Do not promise what ESET has not promised.

Do not:

• Guarantee that a customer can never be hacked• Claim that ESET makes a device completely invulnerable• Invent product features• Give customers unofficial pricing• Alter subscription terms• Promise commission before verification• Submit false referral information• Submit someone else's licence screenshot• Register a customer without their knowledge• Misrepresent yourself as ESET staff unless authorised to do so

The strongest referral participants will sell through accurate information, clear communication and proper follow-through.

REFERRAL JOURNEY AT A GLANCE

1. FIND

Identify someone who may need ESET.

2. INTRODUCE

Explain ESET and the relevant solution.

3. REFER

Send them to the approved MTN purchase channel.

4. PURCHASE

Customer completes the subscription.

5. ACTIVATE

Customer installs and activates ESET.

6. VERIFY

Obtain the licence page screenshot + customer's phone number.

7. SUBMIT

Submit the referral evidence through the designated referral process.

8. VALIDATE

The referral is reviewed against the programme requirements.

9. EARN

Eligible successful referrals qualify for the stated commission.

Commission Structure

Referral participants earn 12% commission on qualifying ESET subscriptions covering 5 devices or more, whether the customer subscribes to ESET Internet Security or ESET PROTECT Entry. All other eligible ESET subscriptions covering fewer than 5 devices attract a 10% commission. In other words, the commission rate is determined by the number of devices covered by the customer's subscription: 5 devices and above = 12%; below 5 devices = 10%. All commissions remain subject to successful subscription, referral verification and compliance with the programme requirements.

QUICK CUSTOMER SCRIPT

Referral participants can use something as simple as:

“Do you currently have cybersecurity protection on your laptop or other devices?”

If they say no:

“ESET has solutions designed to help protect everyday devices against things like malware, phishing and other online threats. There is an ESET × MTN offer available, and you can subscribe through MTN.”

Then:

“You can dial 460150# from your MTN line or purchase through shop.mtn.ng.”

After purchase:

“Once you've subscribed and activated it, please send me a screenshot of your ESET licence page and the phone number you used for the subscription so I can complete the referral verification.”

CUSTOMER FAQ

“I have already paid. Am I protected?”

Not necessarily. Payment is the purchase stage. The customer should still complete installation and activation and confirm that ESET shows the subscription/protection as active.

“Where do I buy ESET?”

Through the approved MTN purchase channels:

Dial 460150#

or

“Can I protect more than one device?”

Yes, depending on the ESET Internet Security plan purchased. Available plans cover different numbers of devices.

“What happens after I buy?”

You receive the relevant licence information, install the ESET solution on the supported device and complete activation.

“What should I do with my licence information?”

Keep it secure. It is important for activation and managing your subscription.

“I was referred by someone. What should I send them?”

For referral verification, provide the required ESET licence page screenshot and the phone number used for the subscription.

“Can I refer myself?”

This should be explicitly defined in the programme terms. I would not state yes or no in the guide until you decide the programme rule.
